The Outsiders Project

We run weekly creative writing workshops throughout the year with marginalised communities in Boscombe. These help to develop skills, confidence and self-belief.

We welcome anybody over 18 who previously was or is currently experiencing challenges in any of the following areas: mental health, physical limitations, addiction, low income, domestic or sexual abuse, homeless / vulnerably housed, leaver of care, leaver of prison, refugees/displaced people and those seeking asylum. All weekly workshops are run by trained outsider artists and are free to attend.

We also run theatre trips and masterclasses with writers and theatre professionals. There are two scratch performances in our theatre each year for new work and emerging writers.

The workshops are all online, but we hope to be able to meet up again soon.

Open group: Thursdays 6-8pm
Women’s group: Fridays 6-8pm
Men’s group: Fridays 6-8pm

If you are interested in joining our workshops, please email us at theoutsidersproj@gmail.com

Parks in Mind provides fun nature conservation, arts and wellbeing activities as well as other outdoor activities in Bournemouth’s beautiful parks and open spaces to deliver health and wellbeing benefits to the people taking part.

Jointly developed by Public Health Dorset, Bournemouth Borough Council and Bournemouth Parks Foundation, the project creates free volunteering opportunities suitable for anyone looking to improve their health, meet new people and learn new skills.

The emphasis is on providing a relaxed and friendly atmosphere while taking part in practical and sociable outdoor activities to improve the environment.

Creative Arts

No-one expected what would happen when real people in recovery from addiction performed a short drugs and alcohol awareness educational play for local secondary schools in 1999. It seemed like a good idea! And it was … it had huge, positive benefits not just for the audiences- but also for the actors.

That first production, Scratchin’ the Surface , was so powerful it became a runaway success, and was seen by more than 60,000 young people across the south of England…

Vita Nova is a vibrant creative arts organisation and recovery community, energised and sustained by the genuine passion of our members and volunteers to help young people and prevent future harm.

As a new member your first experience may well be with our creative writing group, a place of calm and healing, where you are helped to find your voice and lose any inhibitions you might have about telling your story...

 Impossible” becomes “Possible”

”‘No” becomes “Yes”.

”Can’t” becomes “Can.”

Making the journey from Can’t to Can empowers you with a new sense of confidence. This helped me in such a huge way, it gave me confidence and inner strength to fight for my mental and physical health.
